MID in English and Spanish
| English Excel | Spanish Excel | |
|---|---|---|
| Function name | MID | EXTRAE |
| Syntax | =MID(text, start_num, num_chars) | =EXTRAE(text; start_num; num_chars) |
| Example | =MID(A1,5,3) | =EXTRAE(A1;5;3) |
Argument names are shown in English for reference. Spanish examples use the semicolon setting.
What MID does
Returns characters from the middle of a text. Example: Takes 3 characters of A1, starting at position 5.
Semicolons, commas and decimals
Spanish versions of Excel separate arguments with a semicolon or a comma depending on the regional settings of the computer. With semicolons, decimals are written with a comma (3,14). With commas, decimals use a point (3.14). FormulaCheck converts both.
A common mistake
The third argument is how many characters to take, not the end position.
